Eating Disorder Treatment


Miro Psychology specialises in providing treatment for eating disorders and eating concerns. Therapy will help you to explore and better understand the complex relationship between your eating habits, body image, and emotions.

Evidence based therapies typically used in the treatment of eating concerns and disorders include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for eating disorders (CBT-E), Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and supportive psychotherapy. Your therapist will help you to better understand the origins and maintaining factors of the eating concerns and offer tools and strategies to strengthen your adaptive coping means.

Some signs of eating concerns are:

  • Limiting food intake or skipping meals

  • Intense fear of gaining weight

  • Overeating or difficulty stopping when full

  • Poor body image

  • Concern around body weight or shape

  • Excessive exercise to manage body weight or shape

  • Difficulties with eating due to sensory aversion

TREATMENT & REBATES

Medicare

Medicare offers rebates for those who meet criteria for an eating disorder which allows for up to 40 sessions of psychological intervention per calendar year. Please contact us to find out more or to schedule an assessment.

Community based treatment

Miro Psychology provides community-based treatment and therefore may require individuals regularly attend their General Practitioner for medical monitoring whilst undergoing treatment for an eating disorder.
